Sammy Figueroa

SAMMY FIGUEROA has long been regarded as one of the world's great musicians. As one of the jazz world’s leading percussionists he has played on countless records and is well-known for his versatility in a multitude of musical styles. Besides playing with some of the world's greatest pop stars, such as David Bowie, Chaka Khan and Mariah Carey, Sammy has also played with a multitude of distinguished jazz artists including Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Quincy Jones, Brecker Brothers, and many, many more.

In addition to his two Grammy® Nominations for Best Latin Jazz, Sammy has been honored with numerous awards. These include two NARAS Awards for Percussionist of the Year, two Drummie Awards for Best Hand Percussion and the Jazz Journalists Association Award for Best Percussionist. 

Magela Herrera

Praised often for her unique background that also includes Latin jazz and Euro jazz, Herrera developed her incredible instincts and keen musical chops from 2004 through 2011 as a member of Mezcla – one of Cuba’s leading jazz and fusion groups. Towards the end of her tenure in 2010, she was nominated for Best Solo Flute from the New York based magazine, Jazz Corner, for the tune “Quien tiene el ritmo” (who’s got the rhythm) on Mezcla’s album I’ll See You in Cuba. The recording was also nominated for Best Album.

Through the years, Herrera has shared the stage with an extensive list of acclaimed international artists including Chucho Valdez, Roberto Garcia, Ruy Lopez Nussa, Barbara Dane, Ralph Alessis, Geir Lysne, Jan Eggum, Sverre Indris Joner and Hovedoen Social Club, Alejandro Vargas, Sanskriti Shrestha, Oslo Chamber Orchestra, Eliel Lazo and The Cuban Funk Machine.

A Virtuoso Jazz Guitarist

Figueiredo numbers among the world’s greatest jazz guitarists, one whom George Benson described as “one of the greatest guitarists I've seen in my whole life.” His superb technique, timing, and imagination have established him as one of the hottest international names in jazz guitar.   

Diego’s recently released “I Love Samba,” peaked at #13 on the JazzWeek chart and remains in the top 50. This follows his previous album, “My World” (June 2023), which hit #8 on the JazzWeek chart, spent 22 weeks in the Top 50, and was the 30th most played album for all of 2023. Both are released on Arbors Records. Diego has released 30 CDs between his releases in Brazil, on the European label Stunt Records, and now with six albums on Arbors Records. He has played in more than 60 countries and is the winner of several important competitions including The Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition and Brazil’s VISA Prize.

Diego has collaborated and performed with names like Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Roberto Menescal, Toquinho,  Janis Siegel, Stanley Jordan, Joao Donato, Larry Coryell, Ken Peplowski, Lewis Nash, John Clayton, Cyrille Aimée, Jeff Hamilton, Terell Stafford, Wycliffe Gordon, Bill Cunliffe, Dick Hyman and many others.

An Iconic Venue

The Miami Beach Bandshell is an iconic example of MiMo (mid-century Miami Modern) architecture, in the heart of the MiMo Historic District in the city’s North Beach neighborhood.

Managed by the Rhythm Foundation for the City of Miami Beach since 2015, the open-air venue now hosts 120+ events each season. The cultures of Miami converge at the Bandshell, and audiences can enjoy music, arts and culture year-round, by world class artists in an intimate setting.
